My first reaction is that these are the NHL "Original Six" cities, with the exception of Ottawa. The original Ottawa Senators existed until 1934, and for two seasons 1933-34, these were the NHL cities (including NY).
Yeah...Ottawa made me discount the Original Six idea. I also can't imagine hockey fans amongst the Daily Show staff. But one never knows...you could be right!
